"He had been feeling bad the past couple of days," Schilling told The Associated Press. ![]() His condition was not immediately available. Van Zant, 46, came out of surgery at Stanford University Medical Center in Palo Alto, Calif., around 10 p.m., said manager Ross Schilling. Lynyrd Skynyrd frontman Johnny Van Zant had his appendix removed in emergency surgery Thursday night, the band's manager said. I did see Rossington Collins Band back in the day though. My favorite from these guys hasta be Gimme Three Steps followed closely by Simple Man. The part with Freebird and all the pics was just sad tho. I saw them about a year or so ago and it was a pretty good show. I wish I had been old enough to see them back in the day tho. However, I think they were doing a little better than OK before then. I agree it was great that they brought Steve in. I know I've also said that people need to dig past the "Free Bird"s and the "Sweet Home Alabama"s and find out what this band was really about. Haven't really heard much of what any of the newer configurations have done - just hard to accept the band without Ronnie - he has one of my favourite singing voices and he was just a fantastic lyric writer and the whole band just worked. Just not fair that it essentially ended for them right when it was beginning. Street Survivors is an awesome album, and I know I've said it before around here, but I think Steve Gaines was the pick-me-up they needed - I mean, they were doing okay before - a few hits here and there, fairly solid albums, but to me, Street Survivors was through the roof. Kinda surprised there doesn't seem to be a thread from the last two years either, but I guess if there was one, you would've started it, Buckeye as you have to be the biggest Lynyrd Skynyrd fans I know of around these parts (though I think Lodewjik is big on them as well). ![]()
